What To Do When The Fear Of Change Holds You Hostage

Fear of Change

Fear of Change

Has the fear of change ever held you hostage?

Yes, I can feel the nod of your head going up and down.

The memory or memories come flooding back to that time that you wanted to change jobs but were afraid to do so because you weren’t sure if the new job was the right move for you or not.

Or maybe it was a relationship that you were in that you knew wasn’t right for you, but it was better than nothing and the fear of being alone was stronger than your ability to conquer fear.

At some point in time, most people are faced with major change and will need to find ways to overcome fear.

Change is inevitable because we live in a changing world.

Nothing is constant, everything is always changing and change can be really good.  It is all in how you choose to look at it.

I know for myself, I have always welcomed change and have looked at it as an adventure, a new beginning, a period to grow on an emotional, spiritual, physical or financial level.

Yes, I have felt fearful at times when the change was a really big one for me.

We all have to find ways to conquer fear. My solution has always been “face the fear and do it anyway.”

You can play the “what if” game in your head but where does that get you?

More confused, unable to make a decision and held hostage to the “fear of change”.  Your answers will never be found up in your head so please stop analyzing everything from that place.

Through my years of facing the fear and doing it anyway, I have learned to ask questions of my higher self and the Universe and then use my strategy from Human Design to make the correct decision for me.

The “why” question will only drive you insane so I recommend staying away from asking any question that starts with “why”.

Some of my favorite questions to ask when I am feeling the “fear of change” are:

  1. What about this am I not getting right now that would allow me to move forward with ease?
  2. Will this contribute to the bigger plan and purpose of my life?
  3. Who does this fear belong to?

The interesting thing about fear is that 98% of the time, it isn’t even our own but the energy that we took on from someone in our surroundings and it is impossible to process it if it doesn’t even belong to you.

Are the wheels in your mind spinning yet?  Yes, you heard me right, the fear most likely isn’t even yours!

So how much of your life have you been living operating off of thoughts, feelings and emotions that doesn’t even belong to you?

What would your life be like if you could be free of all the heaviness that isn’t even yours but that you have taken on and owned as your own?

Would it be possible to live the life you love with ease and joy?

Would it be beneficial to you to understand what is yours and what is not so you can truly live an authentic life?

Thanks Diane Marie for a wonderful post! I think no matter how often I face fear it is still a struggle for me. Each time I reach for a new step it shows up as confusion and procrastination. Thanks for the reminder to “do it anyway.”

Hi Meire! The answers will always lie in the questions you ask. Staying in the question will move you out of fear, self-doubt and procrastination every time. interesting that you posted a quote – Words of Wisdom from Rumi – I just wrote a post for my Soul Coaching Reading with that same title!
