At the start of the New Year there is renewed Motivation with the hopes that THIS will be “YOUR Year”! The year you finally get back in shape, lose some weight, take better care of yourself finally feel good about yourself again.
Unfortunately, by the end of January only 60% are still maintaining the commitment made. By June this % drops to less then 46%.
By the end of the year a just about 10% actually followed through to achieve successful results.
Why such a drop?
As a Busy Mom Fat Loss Coach I hear a lot of comments from women at the start of their weight loss journey and can gather a few ideas of why the drop off rate is so high when it comes to getting results.
There are dozens of reasons why the drop out rate happens and continues to happen. For FYM specifically I will outline 3 of the most common reasons.
As I do, if any of these apply to you and it stings, then do something about it – decide to do things differently and get yourself on track. If 2013 is to be Your Year, then things must change and the must change now.
1. Trying to do this Alone
Having a support system is essential to your success. Change is hard and not everyone around you will be on board or be understanding. You must find support you simply cannot get at home or from your friends. Look locally, look online. Who is available to support your highest good, who truly cares about your success. There is no reason to do this by yourself.
2. Unrealistic Expectations
This is common among those who focus on dramatic weight loss within the first few days.
“Why am I not losing a lot of weight?”
“Why is this taking so long?”
“What else can I do to speed this up?
This is not how it works.
Weight gain did not happen in one week – it will not go away in one week – especially when there is much to be learned in order to achieve lasting results.
Be careful of the thinking that you’ve tried it all and nothing works.
If you are not willing to put in the work to track what you eat, change how you workout and get down to the reasons why you want to make a change, making the more dramatic shift in mindset, then you cannot get upset with a lack of results. As the poster above says…
“Don’t be upset by the results you didn’t get with the work you didn’t do”
3. Giving Up Too Easy
This is a a HUGE reason for the big drop out rate.
Let me just say this…you want something different – you want a better body a better life. Guess what – the changes you must go through to achieve the goals you desire take EFFORT – will be HARD – will be Uncomfortable – will cause you to FALL many times along the way.
What most don’t get is that with that 1st fall, that it’s not Failure. Failure only happens when you fall and choose to NOT get back up – deciding its too hard to do this and going back to old habits.
It’s HARD to squeeze in the time to workout.
It’s HARD to plan meals ahead of time.
It’s HARD to write down the details of what you eat.
It’s HARD to fight off the cravings.
It’s HARD to forgive and move on.
It’s HARD to maintain the fat loss you’ve achieved.
It’s HARD to keep setting goals to keep yourself challenged.
It’s HARD to struggle to put on your favorite jeans.
It’s HARD to hide the belly bulge.
It’s HARD to undress in front of your husband hoping he does not see.
It’s HARD to be the most overweight person in your group of friends.
It’s HARD to attend your child’s events and feel embarrassed at about
what others think when they see you …
No matter what…It’s HARD.
CHOOSE your Hard.
The KEY to coming out of this with results that make you so giddy you can’t help but beam like a ray of sunshine and tell everyone who asks….is to MAKE A DECISION.
Decide in Advance
“I will NOT allow one ________ (fill in the blank with: mistake, slip up, fall, failure) end my quest to lose weight and become the best version of me.”
Instead you will admit the mistake – Forgive yourself – Learn what to do to be Better Next time because of this mistake – Renew your Efforts and KEEP MOVING FORWARD.
At no point have I ever implied that that process to getting a better body is about being Perfect.
You are a work in progress.
You will reach your goals one step at a time – not by one giant leap.
Stop making this so difficult.
Strive for Progress ~ Not Perfection.
You can do this and don’t be afraid to ask for help!
