As female entrepreneurs we can take advantage of this natural tendency or it can take us down and cause us to play small.
It’s easy to compare ourselves to others in fact we have been doing it since childhood. I can remember playing on the playground and comparing myself to other kids thinking they could run faster or were better at a particular sport. Or in the classroom thinking other kids could read better or were smarter then me.
As female entrepreneurs, have you ever compared yourself to another entrepreneur and said to your self, “I can never do that.” Or, watching another entrepreneur grow their business quickly and feel like they are moving ahead of you in your business?
On the outside you may feel excited for her but on the inside you feel like you are shrinking or jealous. In fact if comparison had an ugly cousin it would be jealousy.
Have you noticed that commonly when you compare yourself to other female entrepreneurs you are belittling yourself and your accomplishments?
Ladies as female entrepreneurs we continue to face our own personal challenges that can confront our own self worth and our own lack of belief in our life path.
Comparing ourselves to someone else is like comparing apples and oranges. It’s not an accurate measuring stick. We are all unique with our own gifts and talents to share with the world. Each of us has our own entrepreneurial journey. Getting stuck in the comparison trap will slow down your own personal entrepreneur journey.
So how do you take this natural tendency of comparing yourself to other female entrepreneurs and use it to your advantage? To help out, here are a few tips that we use to stop comparing our selves to other female entrepreneurs and shift this natural tendency to our advantage.
Tip 1. Step back and redirect. When you notice your getting into the comparison trap, to someone who is prospering or achieving success catch yourself and redirect your thoughts.
Sometimes we are comparing and feeling frustrated not by their success but by our own feelings of lack. Have your own feelings of limitations held you back?
Step back and look at your own success over the past year.
Tip 2 Acknowledge your own success. Where have you had your own success and growth? We can be slow to recognize our own growth and success. Take a few minutes to appreciate your own personal accomplishments.
What are you doing today that scared you a year ago? Sometimes the best way to stop the competition trap is to remember how far you have come in your own journey.
Tip 3. Use this time to your advantage. Ask yourself where have you been playing small or holding back. This is the perfect time to challenge your self. This is your signal that you have not been playing big enough.
Where have you been holding back? Reevaluate your goals and use this time as motivation to really stretch to a new level of entrepreneurial success.
We are all different with our own unique gifts to bring to the world. By continuing to challenge our selves and acknowledging our personal growth we can redirect our thoughts back to our own personal entrepreneurial journey.
